Video: Cave Divers Escape Underwater Avalanche
Cave diving is already daunting enough of a task. But add in an avalanche of rocks and debris and things get turned up a notch.
That’s exactly what happened to anthropologists conducting research dives in one of the Bahamas’ many blue holes. These environments are of significance both anthropologically and in terms of the rare organisms that often inhabit the labyrinth of tunnels.
In the middle of one such dive, rocks began raining upon the researchers—and the whole event was captured on video. Fortunately for the divers, they were able to find their escape line to find the cave’s exit before being consumed by rock and rubble. Check it out for yourself and buckle your seatbelt.
